This month BHS SADD held a Penny Wars to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House in Pittsburgh. In one week they raised over $800. Members also traveled to Pittsburgh and made lunch for all the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
The SADD chapter from Northern Bedford County High School participated in National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW) 2018 and hoped to help “shatter the myths” of drugs and alcohol by setting up an educational display that was used for both students and the community. During school, students could answer quiz questions about drug and alcohol use. Participating students with correct answers were awarded prizes. Announcements were also used to share prevention messages with the student population. To involve the community, the booth was set-up at two evening home sporting events that week. Attendees at the girls and boys basketball games saw the display as they entered the gym area. Information brochures and giveaways were available.
This Valentine’s Day students from Chestnut Ridge banned together, putting sticky notes that contained uplifting messages on every locker in the high school. Empowering teenagers is one of the hardest tasks. However, this project created a lot of smiles with both students and faculty. I have never been prouder of our student body. This project was to provide support to students, and try to lessen the use of alcohol and drugs. The more supported you feel, the less likely you are to use. I hope this project showed students that even though they may not think it, they have support.
